Linn County Mayors’ Bike Ride @ Ellis Park Cedar Rapids

Linn County Trails Association will once again be sponsoring the Linn County Mayors’ Bike Ride!

The free event is on Labor Day morning (Mon Sep 5) at Ellis Park, with registration starting at 9 AM and the ride commencing at 10 AM. Helmets must be worn in order to participate.

The 8 mile route will start in Ellis Park, go through downtown Cedar Rapids, to Coe College, Cedar Lake Loop, back downtown and finish in Ellis Park. There is also a 2.5 mile fun ride.

The educational bicycle ride is organized annually as an opportunity to showcase the continued need and development for multi-modal transportation networks in Linn County. For some elected officials, this is an opportunity to experience first-hand what it’s like to be a bicyclist in Linn County. For bicycle enthusiasts, this is an opportunity to show support for the development of trails in Linn County.

While this event takes place in Cedar Rapids, it is an opportunity for all of Linn County residents and elected leaders to advocate for trails. Mayors and city council members from 17 cities in Linn County have been invited to participate. Invitations are also sent to Linn County Supervisors, and local and state legislators.

Future Trail Projects Open House at Meet Me at the Market

CORRIDOR MPO WILL HOST OPEN HOUSE AT MEET ME AT THE MARKET

Road and trail projects included in the FY17-FY20 Transportation Improvement Program will be on display

In order to spend taxpayer money efficiently, and be more accountable to the public, interested parties are invited to come to Meet Me at the Market this Thursday to review and provide comments regarding project funding in the FY17-FY20 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Everyone is welcome to attend the free event, which will be held at NewBo City Market from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm this Thursday, June 16th.  The Corridor MPO will have a table located at the entrance of NewBo Market where projects will be displayed and MPO staff will be available for public comment.  This event coincides with the weekly Meet Me at the Market event, so those who attend may stop by before or after their respective activities to view and comment on projects financed by taxpayers through federal transportation funds.

All projects selected by the MPO’s Policy Board will help expand and enhance the transportation network in the Cedar Rapids region.  Some projects that have been selected for funding include Tower Terrace Road and the Lindale Trail Extension. The MPO is committed to expanding our trail and pedestrian network, in addition to maintaining our roadways.  “Simply put, we try to fund projects that will improve peoples’ lives,” said Brandon Whyte, Multimodal Transportation Planner at the Corridor MPO, “These projects will help people get to where they need to go faster, easier, and hopefully, will make their trips more enjoyable.”

About the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization

The Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) was established in 2007 to serve as the regional transportation agency for the Cedar Rapids metro area. Since its inception, a major activity of Corridor MPO has been the preparation of area wide plans to help guide orderly growth and development within the region. The Corridor MPO allocates approximately $5.2 million annually to our member jurisdictions for road and trail projects. The Corridor MPO is made up of representatives from Cedar Rapids, Ely, Fairfax, Hiawatha, Linn County, Marion, Palo, and Robins.
