Using the trails in Linn County can be a positive experience for all users. However, if trail users don’t follow trail safety and courtesy guidelines the results can be dangerous, result in injury, or can result in a negative image and experience of and on the trails. Here are some general safety guidelines and rules of courtesy:
- Biker and skaters should always wear a helmet
- Carry plenty of fluids. Drink frequently
- Keep to the right and do not weave
- Always pass on the left
- Signal when passing. For example, in a loud voice say, “On your left”
- Obey all traffic signals
- Be alert to trail hazards such as loose gravel, holes and branches
- Do not block the trail anytime
- When wearing headphones, keep the volume low and be extra cautious
- Adapt your speed to trail and traffic conditions
- Keep track of where you are
- Carr identification and contact information
- Carry a cell phone to report emergencies
- Bicycles should have front and rear lights at dusk or later
- Walkers should carry a lit flashlight at dusk or later
- Please report suspicious activities and material to authorities
- Do not litter
- Dogs must be on a leash (6 foot maximum)
