The asphalt sealing that was originally scheduled for May 5th has been rescheduled for May 28th, but it depends on fair weather conditions. The sealing will occur on the Hoover Trail from 76th Ave to Ely.

Thanks for the heads up.
I had seen the signs for the May 5th closing but was caught by surprise by the May 28th closing. I regularly ride my bike from my home in Ely to work in Cedar Rapids. Had the trail been closed in the morning, I could have turned around and driven to work instead. But closing in the middle of the day with no notice left me with no other option but to ride the treacherous 55 MPH stretch of Ely Road to get home. I was literally shaking from head to foot by the time I got home from the nerves of the ride and from motorists being kind enough to honk their horns as they came up behind me.
I understand the need to work when the weather affords the opportunity, but after reviewing the weather forecast for the week would it have been that difficult to post a new sign in the week or even days before the closing that it would be happening within a number of day time frame? Now that I am aware of this website I will have to make an effort to check for closing postings more regularly. Although trail signs would be far more convenient.
Thank you.
