The Linn County Trails Association has decided to move our board meetings and have also decided on a new meeting time.

Ride to the Marion Farmer's Market - June 13th

Cyclists are encouraged to ride to the Marion Uptown Farmer's Market on Saturday June 13th for a chance to win $25 in Uptown Bucks for use at Uptown Marion businesses.  The Farmer's Market will be held at City Square Park from 8:00am to noon on Saturday June 13th.


Johnson County Hoover Nature Trail Extension Meeting

Tuesday, April 7, 2015, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Solon City Hall – Council Chambers, 101 N. Iowa St., Solon, IA

All interested persons are invited to attend this meeting anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed extension of the Hoover Nature Trail in Johnson County between Solon and Ely. The meeting will be conducted utilizing an open forum format. Johnson County Conservation Board and McClure Engineering Company (consultant) staff will be present to informally discuss the proposed trail extension. No formal presentation will be made. The meeting space is accessible for persons with disabilities. However, if you require special accommodations, please notify the Johnson County contact listed below by March 31.

Fix Your Flat Tire Classes

Northtowne Cycling & Fitness will offer four maintenance classes this winter to help you prepare for the inevitable flat tire. The classes will be hosted Saturdays at 9:30-10:30am on these dates:

February 14, 2015 (2 for one deal on this day! Come with your sweetie and learn together!)

February 28, 2015

The LCTA Mayors' Bike Ride is almost here

The annual LCTA Mayors' bike ride is almost here!  Registration for the event will start on Monday at 9am at the Ellis Park Pool parking lot, and the ride will start at 10am after a few brief announcements.  For more information please visit: https://linncountytrails.org/mayorsbikeride


Meet Me at the Market - a new walk/run/bike event this summer

As part of the Blue Zones Active Life Style Initiative, LCTA has partnered with several other organizations to develop weekly social walk, run or bike events through out next summer that will be based at the NewBo City Market on Thursday evenings from May through October.  The web page describing the event is temporarily located at https://linncountytrails.org/mmm/.  We ask all participants to register for the event online to sign a waiver (once) and then check-in weekly at the event.  Awards including t-shirts will be given for multiple attendance.

The first public announcement of Meet Me at the Market will be at the New BLUEhemia event being held at the City Market this Saturday, March 2 from 3-7 pm.    Please attend and consider wearing you LCTA t-shirt to show your partnership with the event.  Register before March 3 and attend the first MMM event on May 2 to receive a free MMM t-shirt.  Otherwise you must attend 4 events to qualify for a free t-shirt.

Interested in volunteering with LCTA?  We could use 10 volunteers to help with the Fairview Farm Trail Run & Walk on November 4 at Beverly Park.  For more infomation about the event, visit the event website: http://www.cvra.net/races/fairview-trail-run. The following volunteers are needed:

2 people at the registration area; time: 10:30am until noon
2 people at the finish line; time: 11:45am until 1:15pm
6 course monitors*; time: 11:30pm until 1:30pm;

*Course monitors need to have the ability to walk on trails for up to 1 mile, and return.  Course monitors ensure runners stay on the routes and are along the trails for safety.  They can also take photos if they like.

LAMBA folks will mark the course and also be on the trails during the event.

Volunteer Opportunity

Interested in volunteering, beautifying trails and making a positive difference in nature?  Consider helping the City of Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department spread prairie seeds at Prairie Park Fishery.  On Tuesday, March 6th at 9AM, city staff will be working with a group of student volunteers from Kirkwood Community College to spread prairie seeds.  No RSVP necessary.  No tools necessary, but please dress for the weather!  For any questions about the project, please contact: Daniel Gibbins, [email protected].


Eco Lips Earth Day Bike Ride & Celebration

The Eco Lips Earth Day Bike Ride and Celebration starts at noon on Saturday April 23 in Sokol Park 16th Ave and A Street SW across from the Czech Museum. Noon - Sport Route 55 miles 2pm - Casual Route 17 miles 3pm - Family Route 7 miles Routes are on the Cedar River Trail Activities in Sokol Park include exhibitors from local earth-friendly organizations, games and activities for children, and music by DJ Slim Pickens from 3:00-7:00pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The celebration continues after the ride at Parlor City Pub & Eatery, 1125 3rd Street in Cedar Rapids.
